18 foot scow inspired proa

This is a concept sketch for a small proa with a large comfortable cabin. No doubt performance would be less than a sleeker, finer lower proa. Comfort has been put ahead of speed.

The cabin is inspired by Bolger's birdwatcher design. The proa has rudderboards that contribute to bother steering and lateral resistance. As they are further to the ends than the Mbuli proa, logic suggests that they could be smaller. These rudderboards swivel 270 degrees in case of grounding at speed thus eliminating a potential source of damage. Rudderboards mounted on crossbeams would be a valid option as well.

I have not shown a rig. My guess is that a twin mast setup would suit best, whether each rig is junk, bermudan, sprit or lug I do not know.
